Job Title:             Custodian

Classification: Non-exempt; hourly
Schedule:          25 hours per week

Job Summary:  We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Custodian. The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness within our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for staff and visitors. In addition to maintaining the cleanliness of our building, the Custodian will be responsible for light maintenance, some sidewalk snow removal and salting.

Education and/or Experience (years):  High school diploma or equivalent. Previous custodial or housekeeping experience and small hand tool and maintenance experience is preferred but not required. Knowledge of cleaning products and techniques. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors regularly to maintain cleanliness; spot clean as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Clean and maintain windows, walls, and surfaces.
  • Dust and polish furniture and fixtures regularly.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and replacing paper towel and soap dispensers.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and inform supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Maintain laundry from kitchen, special events and baptisms.
  • Seasonal sidewalk snow removal and salting.
  • Special event custodial service, as needed and if available (event host pays extra fee)
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and procedures.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure all areas are adequately maintained.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor promptly.
  • Miscellaneous other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
  • Strong ‘people’ and relational skills for relating to staff, volunteers, church family and the general public.
  • A team player with a Christ-like servant attitude that puts the church’s vision above any one ministry.
  • Prior experience leading a team is strongly preferred.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 75 lbs unassisted, bending and working from a step ladder.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
