Custodian
Reports To:  Building Coordinator
Schedule: 12–15 hours per week
Classification: Non-exempt / Hourly

Job Summary
The Custodian helps create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our church family by maintaining the cleanliness and care of our facilities, completing light maintenance tasks, assisting with sidewalk snow removal and salting, and ensuring our campus is ready for ministry throughout the week.

Job Responsibilities
Cleaning and Care
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and spot clean floors.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Clean windows, walls, surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly.
  • Maintain laundry for the kitchen, special events, and baptisms.
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and procedures.
Maintenance and Operations
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs and refilling paper towel and soap dispensers.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Remove snow and apply salt to sidewalks during the winter season.
  • Provide custodial support for special events as needed and based on availability (event host pays an additional fee).
  • Report maintenance and repair needs promptly to the supervisor.
Team Support
  • Follow all safety guidelines to maintain a safe environment for staff and guests.
  • Collaborate with church staff to ensure facilities are clean, functional, and ready for ministry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous custodial, housekeeping, or facility maintenance experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic experience using small hand tools and performing light maintenance tasks preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and proper cleaning techniques.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for relating to staff, volunteers, church family, and the general public.
  • Team player with a Christ-like servant attitude that puts the church's vision above any one ministry.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 75 pounds unassisted, bending, and working from a step ladder.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
